White sand dunes on the Dakhla peninsula
0 m · SAHARA

01 · The desert

A peninsula of sand in the ocean

Dakhla is a 40 km strip of Sahara running out into the Atlantic. On one side, the open ocean. On the other, a calm lagoon of clear water.

−2 m · LAGOON

02 · The lagoon

Sheltered water, renewed by every tide

The bay is shallow and protected from the swell. Big tides empty and fill it twice a day, so the water around the oysters is always fresh.

Oyster trestles in the lagoon water
−8 m · CURRENT

03 · The current

Cold water, full of plankton

Along this coast the trade winds push surface water offshore, and cold, nutrient-rich water rises from the deep. That is what the oysters feed on.

04 · The parks

Grown in the tide, worked by hand

The oysters grow in mesh bags on trestles, uncovered at low tide. Teams turn, sort and grade them by hand until they reach market size.

05 · The oyster

Full meat, clean and briny

A firm body, a clean sea taste and a sweet finish. The sun shines almost every day of the year, so the water stays mild and growth stays steady.

FAQ

Before you ask.

Which countries can you ship to?

Moudrika ships live Pacific oysters from Dakhla to any market whose health and import rules allow it. Tell us your destination on WhatsApp: we check those rules, list the documents your country asks for, and confirm what is possible before you commit. Every lot leaves Dakhla with a veterinary pass after inspection.

Can I get a sample first?

Yes. A sample shipment of live Dakhla oysters can be arranged before a first full order, so you can check the size, the shell and the meat yourself. Ask for it on WhatsApp with your destination and the size you buy, and we send the details together with photos of the current harvest.

What sizes do you have?

The oysters are graded by weight, from No.1 to No.5, and sorted to the size you work with. About 400,000 Pacific oysters (Crassostrea gigas) are in the water in Dakhla right now. Tell us your size and volume on WhatsApp and we tell you what is available today.

How long does delivery take?

It depends on the destination and the route. The oysters are harvested, packed cold and dispatched from Dakhla, by refrigerated truck or by air freight from Dakhla airport. They keep live 7 to 10 days after harvest at 4 to 10 °C, and you get a timeline together with the quote.

Is there a minimum order?

Ask us on WhatsApp. Moudrika works with importers, wholesalers and distributors of every size, and the stock in Dakhla is about 400,000 live oysters, so small trial orders and large volumes can both be discussed. Packing follows your spec, and a sample can be sent before a first full order.

How do I keep the oysters alive on arrival?

Keep them between 4 and 10 °C, lying flat, in a cool and airy place, and never put them in fresh water. Stored this way, Moudrika's Dakhla oysters keep 7 to 10 days after harvest. On the road they travel in plastic crates in a refrigerated truck at 5 to 15 °C.

Where exactly are the oysters farmed?

In the Dakhla lagoon on the Atlantic coast, in the Cintra production zone, which has sanitary class A, the top class for shellfish waters. The oysters grow in mesh bags on trestles in the tidal zone, are turned and graded by hand, and are packed in Dakhla before they ship.
